Urban Soccer

This might be my new favorite YouTube video! It is a compilation of Remi Gaillard scoring some incredible “goals” throughout the city. It’s also available in HD at YouTube. Check out Remi’s other videos at his website.

CentSports to Dollars

My new favorite website! Here’s how it works: the site gives you a free 10 cents to bet with. As soon as you make $20 or more, you can cash out for real money. It’s that simple. Now, I’m not much a gambler, but CentSports has got me hooked. And the best part is you have nothing to lose because you’re never playing with your own money. It’s totally free! If you like sports at all, you should check it out.

Web Gem

While it is hard to say this is the best MLB play this year (that one has to go to DeWayne Wise), it is easy to say this would have to make the top 5. Not only does Alexi Casilla make a great diving grab, but somehow still manages to throw the ball, with his glove, at full extension, and still get the guy out. Incredible!

Leafboarding

I thoroughly enjoy a good snowboarding video, but when you replace the snow with fallen leaves in a beautiful autumn forest, I’m speechless. Check out Zimtstern’s latest commercial, Leaves.

More Red Power

An awesome ad by Svetlin Velinov to promote the Singaporean national football team kit by Nike. I don’t think it is part of the same campaign as the one for the Beijing 2008 Olympics. Both are amazing, but I think I like the newer one the best. Enlarge Image

Why 100?

If you fancy yourself to be a baseball fan, as I do, you’ll want to give this a read. It’s a great article that tries to answer the question of “Why 100 pitches?” Writer Tim Kurkjian breaks down how pitching has changed over the years and how the game has been molded around that magic number 100.

Swing Batter Batter

Now I want to see him use that in a game. Would that even be legal?

The Leg Up Program

This has to be one of the most horrifying sports injuries I’ve ever seen. What is seemingly a 50/50 ball turns out to be 100% leg-shattering. If a man kicking his knee with his own foot doesn’t fascinate and disgust you, nothing will. YouTube Link

FootyTube

Finally, a website where you can watch quality soccer videos and game recaps. I love the extensive 10-20 minute videos that show all the highlights and the action leading up to the goals, not just the goals themselves. It’s perfect for checking out the games we don’t have access to here in the States. Also, be sure to check out FootyTube 2.0 in beta, which looks a lot better than the current design. My only complaint would be the name. I just can’t stand it when people refer to soccer/football as “footy.”

The Mile High Club

Golf club that is. This 400 yard par 3 is the 19th hole at the Legends Golf and Safari Resort golf course. The tee box, teetering high above at 1410 feet, requires a chopper to access it. Someday perhaps all golf carts will be replaced with helicopters. YouTube Link

A Sad Day for Soccer

Of all the possible sports equipment out there, why soccer balls? I had no idea our friends over at SSI Shredding hated the sport so much. Well at least two of them got away.

Cheeky Free Kick

Check out this tricky little free kick by Coventry City. The goal was scored by Ernie Hunt in a 1970 game against Everton. And if you know soccer, then you know this not only took skill, but huge balls to even try something like this. YouTube Link

Paper Shoes

Check out the amazing origami effects in this beautiful video telling the story of the Japanese sports company, ASICS. This video seamlessly blends together actual origami, stop motion and computer graphics to achieve something I’ve never seen before.

An excellent set of photos from the Iditarod in Alaska, brought to you once again from the Boston Globe’s Big Picture.
